WHAT I'VE LEARNT SO FAR.... (REFLECTIONS)

Lecture 1 - Building a Professional Presence 1

From this lecture, we had learned the importance of how first impression can affect the way people judge us. It doesnt matter if our personality & characters are good because the moment we portray a wrong impression at the first meeting, people will judge us based on their own perceptions. Then, it will require a long time or hard effort to change their thinking of us. Thats human. So, thanks to this lecture, we learned that Attire is a language, clothing defines and describes us so the proper attire is very important. Also, we learned the different types of dress codes for different types of meetings/business which is important for our future needs.

Here are some examples of the different types of attire :

Buisness Attire

Smart casual wear

All these are important as they taught us how to dress appropriately, especially when we are going for job interviews. It helps us to portray a good image to our boss and dressing appropriately can already earn us an bonus during the interviews. It certainly helps alot as we are all applying for our internship now and we are required to send in our resumes and attend interviews by different compaines. Therefore, this lecture really benefits us as it gave us a rough guide on what to wear for interviews to be presentable. In the future, we will also need it when we enter the working world.

I've already been to some interviews and thanks to this lecture, I am able to know what to wear for the interviews and I am glad to say, I do give all the companies a good first impression of myself :D

Lecture 3 - Corporate Politics

DONT BE THAT FIRST VICTIM!

In this lecture, not only do we learn bout the real working world and what we have to do to prevent offending others in our workplace, we also learn about sexual harassment and how to prevent it! We learned stuff like "What is sexual Harrasment and What is considered as sexual harassment" and most importanly.... "What can you do if you're a victim or if you observe acts of sexual harassment"! All these are extremely important especially to the ladies and such thing do happen in the real working world!

** BOTH THE MALES AND FEMALES CAN BE THE VICTIMS!!**

This lecture really taught us a lot as it also provide us with the knowledge of how to survive in the real working world and the "Do's" & "Dont's" of the office. It taught us how to be "smart" in working so that we can portray a good impression infront of the boss and also at the same time, will not be percepted as "flatterer" by your working colleagues. It taught us how to communicate and get along with our colleagues and not to involve in any political issues. All these are important as its the basic knowledges that we are required of when we enter the working world.

Some of the tips given are:

Being Visible!
Be whatever you can be. Handyman, doctor, problem solver, helping hand etc. Make sure you are visible in the office.

Peers and subordinates!
Try to be a team player, have humour, ask for advices, exchange favours, listen to gossip BUT DOT GET INVOLVE.

Also, this lecture taught us bout the different types of workers, how to handle conflicts in the office and how to booast our career. All these tips and knowledges are important as they are what we need when we enter the working world. Also, we learned bout office romance and how to handle them so that it will nt affect our work or raise any unfair treatment or biasness. Afterall, personal issues have to be separated from office issues in the working world.

I believe this lecture can assist me greatly in the future.

"Diasters strikes everywhere if you dont get along!"

Lecture 5 - Customer Perceptions 2

THE 7 DEADLY STATEMENTS!!

Deadly statement no.1 "IM HAVING A TERRIBLE DAY."
A bad day is never an excuse for making mistakes!

Deadly statement no.2 "WE'RE SHORT ON STAFF TODAY."
Not your fault nor the customers' fault so its nt an excuse for ignoring customers' needs.

Deadly statement no.3 "I ONLY WORK HERE PART TIME."
So what if you're working only part time? It doesnt matter to the customers. They just wan good services.

Deadly statement no.4 "THIS JOB IS REALLY HARD"
Saying these will make the customers feel that serving them is a burden!

Deadly statement no.5 "THAT LAST CUSTOMER WAS REALLY A PAIN!"
There will be a lost of trust as they will start to wonder if we might say bout them if they leave!

Deadly statement no.6 "THIRD TIME THIS WEEK WE'VE HAD SYSTEM PROBLEMS"
Not an excuse! No control over techincal problem but do control over attitude and quality of service!

Deadly statement no.7 "MY CO-WORKER MESSED UP."
Blaming on co-worker is not a solution. Reflects poorly on you & your organisations!

Yes!! These 7 deadly statements are really useful as people do repeat all these offences unknowningly. I am working part-time myself and I admit, I did say a few of these statements before and I didnt know they were so deadly till this lecture came along! Now that I've known of it, I no longer repeat these mistakes in work anymore!

---------

Conclusions

Seriously, all these lectures make a great impact in my life as it taught us all the basic skills and knowledges we have to know when we step into the working world next time. They provide us with the basic knowledge of what we are required of and prevent us to make any silly mistakes or offences when we are working next time. Customers impressions and services are extremely important and our jobs and salaries all depend on them. These lectures really helps alot as all these are parts and parcels of our life, something which are unavoidable and everyone has to go through this phase of life.
